Step 1 - Pattern Cutting
We cut individual paper patterns using your measurements
The cutter works with you to select the cloth from our range for your bespoke suit. Then your style is discussed with the cutter who will work with your unique measurements.
From the measurements that are taken, we cut your unique pattern and the style that you have chosen is transferred to the pattern.
Step 2 - Cloth Cutting
We singularly cut your cloth and add inlays
After the paper pattern has been cut, we then chalk around it and the suit is cut by hand on the selected cloth. Extra cloth is left at certain seams (inlays) to allow for possible fluctuations in the your weight, enabling us to alter the suit, if it is necessary in the future.
Step 3 - Trim
The garment is trimmed adding the natural canvases, buttons and hand-silks
Particular materials are then added to the suit like natural wool, canvasses and linen (trimming). These are used within the construction of the garment to give the suit its classic silhouette.
Step 4 - Putting Together
We hand pad the canvassing for the perfect chest drape
The suit is canvassed by hand and prepared for your first fitting.
Step 5 - First Fitting
First stage based fitting where length and posture is noted
During the first fitting the garment is fitted by our highly trained cutter. The cutter then starts to alter the suit to your posture.
Step 6 - Marking Up
The garment is remarked as well as the paper pattern and returned to the Coatmaker
After the first fitting, the garment is then completely taken apart and re-cut and given back to the tailor to be prepared for the next fitting.
Step 7 - Second Fitting
Second stage fitting checked for drape, neck point and cuffs
The next fitting is where previous alterations and amendments are refined as to give the suit its exceptional fit and comfort. The suit is checked over for break over shoe, seat of trouser and the drape.
Step 8 - Buttonholes
Hand finishing inside and outside buttonholes
After the final alterations have been made, a tailor will hand make the buttonholes and hand finish the suit inside and out using fine hand silks, which gives the suit pure natural fibres and a lasting finish.
Step 9 - Final Suit
Final fitting for the perfect Fielding and Nicholson bespoke suit
The suit is then ready for the final fitting. Advice is given to you on how to best care for your suit and maintain shape, such as pressing and cleaning. Each suit is numbered and logged, so that we can source any of the materials if your suit gets damaged.
